Description

This training module is designed to foster awareness, empathy, and practical understanding around menopause and perimenopause in the workplace. Through a blend of informative input, collaborative discussion, and scenario-based exercises, participants will engage with the social, emotional, and professional challenges faced by menopausal individuals. The aim is to build the capacity of managers, HR professionals, and team members to create inclusive and psychologically safe environments, grounded in principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The session unfolds in six structured phases:

1.Introduction (15-30 minutes):

The facilitator opens the session with a brief overview of menopause and perimenopause, defining the terms and setting the tone for the discussion. This segment also explains the significance of addressing menopause in the workplace, highlighting how silence and stigma can negatively impact individuals and team dynamics.

Here you can add an ice-breaker activity. For example, everyone introduces themselves and shares one fact that they know about menopause. In that way, not only will participants feel comfortable but also, they will try to familiarize themselves with the theme of the module.

1.Context and facts (20 minutes):

Participants are presented with key data points related to menopause in the workforce, for example, statistics on age demographics, absenteeism, and workplace retention. The group then reflects on how societal taboos and a general lack of awareness have contributed to a culture of silence, often leading to misunderstanding or marginalization of those experiencing menopause.

1.Theoretical framework (20 minutes):

This segment introduces participants to relevant DEI principles, connecting them directly to the experiences of menopausal individuals. Through guided discussion, the facilitator explores the intersection of gendered ageism and unconscious bias, encouraging participants to consider how these forces shape attitudes, workplace policies, and behavior—often in invisible ways.

1.Scenario based group activity (3o minutes)

Participants are divided into small groups and provided with realistic workplace scenarios involving menopause-related challenges. Each group is tasked with identifying:

-The core issues or barriers present in the scenario

-The impact these may have on the individual undergoing menopause, but also the team

-Supportive strategies, solutions and measures that could be implemented

After 20 minutes of discussion within the groups, each group shares the analysis and proposed strategies with the larger group, allowing for cross-learning.

1.Practical strategies and best practices (15 minutes)

The facilitator presents a toolkit of practical strategies that workplace can adopt to be more inclusive and supportive. This includes: flexible work arrangements, cler communication practices, sensitivity training and awareness campaigns and inclusive policies with accessible language

Real life examples of successful workplace initiatives and inclusive language tips are also shared to inspire concreate action.

1.Reflection and action planning (15 minutes):

To close the session, participants are invited to reflect individually on how the insights gained could be applied in their own work context. They are encouraged to write down one key takeaway and one specific action step they will implement. A brief sharing round follows, giving participants the opportunity to commit publicly to their next steps and build collective momentum.
